Wooden Toys for Children: A Timeless Choice
Most of popular toy manufacturers nowadays focus on making toys that are made of plastic. Their decision is anchored on the fact that plastic is much cheaper. Additionally, plastic is easier to work with and is the proven standard in toy-making. Unfortunately, this has translated into manufacturers no longer producing wooden toys for children.
On the bright side, there are some manufacturers that still pursue to create and sell wooden toys but do not sell their products through popular toy stores anymore. Usually, these companies opt to sell their wooden toys through the internet. It’s a shame that most children nowadays have little or no choice but to play with plastic toys that are usually brittle and even dangerous for them.
Wooden toys for children are definitely more appropriate than their plastic cousins. Why? First, these toys are durable! When I say durable, I mean that when it’s dropped from the second floor, it’s still probably going to remain intact. When it’s thrown against the wall, it will still remain intact! This is important mainly because children, with all their playfulness and rampant activity, usually take fun in not just playing with their toys, but also trying to destroy them.
A result of this durability would be the fact that it can be handed down to younger children once it has been outgrown. Truly, memories will flow from the wooden toy and it can potentially possess a nostalgic feeling that you just won’t get with broken and banged up plastic toys.
Incidentally, these plastic toys are oftentimes for expensive mainly because they are heavily marketed by the major toy companies thus increasing its purchase price. A wooden toy would definitely provide more value for money.
Another reason would be the uniqueness of these wooden toys. These wooden toys are specially handcrafted and carefully painted with non-toxic paint. Plastic toys, which are products of mass production, do not give that same benefit. You are more likely to find a plastic toy owned by another child who lives in a different continent that is exactly the same as yours.
Wooden toys on the other hand, would give you that sense of exclusivity of ownership. It’s just a different feeling when you know you have a toy that most probably only has only a few of its kind. Handcrafting would also enable the toy-maker to make the wooden toy more suited for kids as it the toy-maker has direct supervision of a toy’s production. The probability of toxic paint, sharp edges and broken parts is lessened by handcrafting.
Lastly, wooden toys for children definitely offer a better alternative for children who deserve nothing but the best in this important stage of their lives. With all of these reasons in consideration, maybe it’s time for you to start donating the plastic toys your child owns and start replacing them with the more durable, beautiful and special wooden toys. It’s definitely the better choice.
